Amy's Blog - Month 2
Posted on February 28th 2018 by Amy Murphy
Thanks for stopping by to read my second blog piece for the RMCC website. I hope you are all well and achieving all your New Year goals!
Well … February has certainly been a “challenging” month in my training schedule; let me tell you a little about it … The first week of the month I was all guns blazing; I was in the gym 3 or 4 days that week and had my first session with Kate, my Personal Trainer. Kate is brilliant and exactly what I need; patient and encouraging in equal measures, and is happy to push me a little J! She took all my measurements (ouch) and then took my photo from three different viewpoints (didn’t like that too much, I can tell ya’) and if that wasn’t enough trauma for one day, we then did 60mins weight training. Well, I was shaking and hurting in muscles I never knew I had. But, I did it. I didn’t cave in or cry off, just dug deep and worked through it. Three 30 second planks … bring it on!!! I was feeling pretty damn pleased with myself.
And then I got ill …. Not sure what it was, some kind of a virus but I was out of action for 2 weeks … zero energy, uber emotional (even more so than normal), cold sores, and even walking hurt! Every day was a struggle! My diet started to slip as I craved sugar and carbs, which, when I weakened (and I did) I then felt even more miserable for weakening and eating all the wrong stuff!
I started to get a little OCD about all the numbers as I felt the lbs started to creep back on … you know the numbers that I said in my last blog, I would not get hung up on, yeah those one’s … well, I did get hung up – so many numbers to think about … Number of gym sessions this week? Number of lbs on or off? Number of inches gained or lost? Number of kph on the tread mill? It was getting a little bit silly! But my saving grace came at the end of the 2 weeks when I got back on the scales and miraculously, the only number that mattered right then was +1lb!
So week 4 of Feb was this past week and I am back on it – more committed than ever to my fitness – not hung up on the numbers but, 4 gym sessions down and well, let’s just say that the diet is a work in progress again.
Next week I have another 60mins with Kate planned, and funnily enough, I am kinda’ looking forward to it. With 229 days to go until challenge day, my confidence has certainly been tested a little this month, but it’s got to be about small, manageable steps, right?!?
I don’t have any words of wisdom to close out this blog with this time, expect to say that I am sure for anyone who is on a path to making big changes in their lives, we are going to be challenged and tested at times … we have the choice to buckle and break, or bend, and come back a little bruised by the experience but not broken! That’s where I am at right now!
See you at the finish line!
